When patients arrive for a dental exam, they seldom have a clear idea of the actual status of their dental health. Our cosmetic dentists will use a pen sized camera-tipped wand to record the images to a computer. As the wand is passed over your teeth, it takes a video of the inside of your mouth. Traditionally, dentists find out what’s going on inside your mouth by taking a series of x-rays, developing them, and then examining them on a special light board. Our doctors specifically use the soft tissue diode laser in the treatment of gum disease. Lasers have been shown to destroyed infectious bacteria with focused light energy. Periodontal disease is caused by a bacterial infection. The use of the laser in the procedure will remove the bacterial microorganisms, and thus restore the tissue to health. Our doctors use the highly sophisticated Myotronics K7 jaw tracking system, to study the various positions of a patient’s jaw when in motion and at rest. The scans / reports created by the K7 reveal many neuromuscular problems that affect a patient’s bite, causing a great deal of pain and discomfort in the head, neck, and even in some other parts of the body. This innovative technology is a muscle-stimulating device that helps relax muscles with the use of electrical pulses. This provides accurate measurements of muscle activity, which is then fed into a computer program. The ultimate goal is to relax the muscles, freeing them from tension and pain, and allowing proper function when chewing, speaking, and even smiling. Tense muscles can cause head, neck, and back pain and this new technology may help relieve some of these symptoms. An orthotic may be constructed to fit over the teeth to help the muscles relax in the position as determined by the computer.
